Applications

The Uni-Solar PVL series was designed specifically for low-slope and flat roofing systems where conventional rigid crystalline panels cannot be used without costly racking and roof penetrations. The amorphous thin-film cells perform better than crystalline silicon under diffuse light, partial shading, and high ambient temperatures, and because the film uses a multi-junction cell structure, shading of a single cell affects only that cell's output rather than pulling down an entire series string. The peel-and-stick format makes these panels well suited for EPDM, TPO, and PVC membrane roofs as well as standing-seam and corrugated metal roofing — common on commercial, industrial, and agricultural buildings. Their light weight (less than one-fifth that of comparable crystalline panels) also makes them practical for RVs, motor homes, travel trailers, semi-truck trailers, cargo containers, and any flat or gently curved surface at least 18 feet long. Output can be wired to support 12V, 24V, or 48V battery systems for off-grid or hybrid applications. The PVL-136 was Uni-Solar's high-output single-laminate model and was in wide use through the mid-2000s to early 2010s; this stock dates from February 2011.
