The Uni-Solar PVL-136 is a 136-watt, 24-volt flexible thin-film solar panel manufactured by United Solar Ovonic using triple-junction amorphous silicon cell technology. Unlike rigid crystalline panels, the PVL-136 uses a peel-and-stick adhesive backing that bonds directly to metal and membrane roofing surfaces without fasteners or penetrations. The panel ships rolled on a cardboard core and unrolls to a long, flat strip measuring 18 feet by 15.5 inches.

Applications

The Uni-Solar PVL series was developed primarily for commercial low-slope roofing applications — specifically for EPDM membrane and standing-seam metal roofs where drilling or ballasting is not practical. The peel-and-stick format was a significant departure from rack-mounted panels and made the PVL line popular with roofers and solar contractors who could install them without structural modifications. Because the panels are roughly one-fifth the weight of comparable crystalline glass panels, they are also well-suited for weight-sensitive platforms including RV rooftops, boat decks, and cargo trailer roofs. The triple-junction amorphous cell design performs better than single-crystal silicon under diffuse light conditions (overcast skies, partial shade), which made it attractive for maritime and outdoor mobile applications. The UL 1703 grid-tie listing means these panels were built to utility interconnection standards and can be integrated into both grid-tied and off-grid systems up to 600 VDC. United Solar Ovonic produced the PVL line at their Michigan facilities primarily from the mid-2000s through the early 2010s, and PVL-series panels remain in active use on rooftops and mobile platforms today.
