The Uni-Solar PVL-128 is a 128-watt flexible amorphous thin-film solar laminate designed to bond directly to membrane and metal roofing surfaces without penetrations or mounting hardware. Manufactured by United Solar Ovonic, the PVL-128 uses triple-junction amorphous silicon cells encapsulated in a durable ETFE polymer film with an ethylene propylene copolymer adhesive backing. This unit comes with bottom-facing 4-inch output wires (positive red, negative black) for direct wiring.

Applications

The PVL-128 is designed specifically for commercial and residential low-slope roofing applications where conventional framed panels cannot be used. The adhesive backing bonds directly to EPDM, TPO, and metal (Galvalume/Zincalume) roofing membranes, making it a standard choice for building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) on flat and low-pitch commercial roofs. Because it is UL 1703 listed for systems up to 600 VDC, the PVL-128 is compatible with grid-tied inverter systems and can be wired in series strings with other PVL-series panels. The bypass diode on each cell limits shading losses to the output of the single shaded cell — typically less than 4.5% per shaded cell — making it well-suited for rooftops with potential obstructions. The thin-film amorphous silicon technology also provides better low-light and high-temperature performance relative to crystalline silicon panels, which is an advantage on rooftops exposed to high ambient temperatures or diffuse light conditions. The PVL series was widely used by professional roofing contractors and solar installers on commercial re-roofing projects through the 2000s and 2010s, and remains in demand for retrofit installations and replacement panels on existing PVL arrays.
