The Uni-Solar PVL-116 is a 116-watt, 24-volt flexible amorphous thin-film solar panel designed to peel and adhere directly to metal and membrane roofing surfaces with no mounting hardware or roof penetrations. At 16.4 feet long and just 15.5 inches wide, it laminates flat to the roof plane and becomes part of the roofing system rather than sitting on top of it. The panel is UL Listed (3R06) and carries a Category 3 hurricane uplift rating of 130 MPH.

Applications

The PVL-116 is part of Uni-Solar's building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) laminate system, engineered specifically for low-slope commercial and industrial roofing. The panels bond directly to standing-seam metal roofs (Galvalume steel), TPO, and other membrane substrates — the same surfaces used on warehouses, big-box retail, schools, and manufacturing facilities. Because the laminate adds no significant structural load and requires no roof penetrations, it is a common choice for retrofit solar on existing commercial roofs where racking systems are impractical or warranty-voiding. Amorphous silicon triple-junction cells perform comparatively well under diffuse, cloudy, and low-angle light conditions, which can give these panels a real-world energy yield advantage over crystalline panels of equal rated wattage in overcast climates. The PVL series was a flagship product of United Solar Ovonic (Auburn Hills, MI) and was widely installed on commercial and institutional buildings throughout the 2000s and into the 2010s. These panels are still actively sought for replacement, repair, and new off-grid or grid-tied installations on compatible roofing systems.
