Description

Universal E72083 CATV Cable to UHF 47-Channel Block Converter V-4900 120V

The Universal E72083 is a CATV cable-to-UHF block converter from the VX Series V-4900 line. It converts incoming cable TV signals to UHF frequencies, allowing a standard UHF-tuned television to receive cable channels without a built-in cable tuner. A channel conversion chart is printed on the top panel for quick reference when tuning channels.

Applications

CATV block converters like the Universal E72083 were widely used during the 1970s and 1980s, when many televisions could only tune UHF and VHF over-the-air channels and lacked built-in cable tuners. Cable companies provided these converters — or consumers purchased their own — to translate scrambled or mid-band cable channels into a single UHF output channel that the TV's tuner could pick up. The channel conversion chart on the top made it easy to find which UHF channel corresponded to each cable channel. This type of device is sought today by vintage electronics collectors, retro home theater enthusiasts, and those maintaining older cable TV setups or analog broadcast equipment for testing and restoration purposes.
