The STS Inc Equalizer 2 is a 19-inch 2U rackmount satellite intermediate frequency (IF) equalizer designed for use in satellite ground station and microwave communications systems. It provides three independent equalization channels (EQ1, EQ2, EQ3) along with a dedicated IF path, and includes front-panel fault indicators, IF level test points, and a lamp test function for system diagnostics. The unit accepts either 115V or 220V AC power, selectable via the front-panel fuse configuration.

Applications
The Equalizer 2 is a specialized piece of satellite ground station equipment used to compensate for amplitude and group delay distortions introduced in the IF signal path — typically between a satellite modem or demodulator and the up/downconverter chain. In satellite communications systems, the IF section (commonly 70 MHz or 140 MHz) carries the modulated carrier between indoor and outdoor RF equipment, and amplitude or phase distortions in cables, combiners, or amplifiers along that path can degrade link performance. An IF equalizer like this unit corrects those distortions by applying an inverse transfer function, improving the quality of the received or transmitted signal. The three-channel architecture (EQ1, EQ2, EQ3) allows the unit to serve in systems where multiple IF paths or carriers require independent equalization. Units of this type were standard in satellite teleport facilities, military satcom installations, and broadcast uplink stations from the 1980s through the early 2000s, and continue to be used in legacy ground station infrastructure where this class of analog IF hardware remains in service.
This STS Inc Equalizer 2 satellite IF equalizer has been inspected and is in good used condition. It was pulled from a working satcom environment where it was in active use. The red top cover shows light scuffing and general surface wear consistent with rack-mounted field use. The front panel controls, BNC connectors, and fault indicator section appear intact. The rear DB-15 control connectors and BNC IF IN/OUT ports show normal wear.
