The SoloPower SP3L-160 is a large-format flexible thin-film solar panel built on CIGS (Copper Indium Gallium Selenide) cell technology. At 86.5 inches long and just 0.1 inches thick, it is substantially larger and lighter than a conventional glass-framed crystalline silicon panel of comparable wattage. The panel is constructed from 180 series-connected CIGS cells and features an ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene) top sheet, which provides UV resistance and long-term weatherability without the weight or rigidity of glass. MC4 connector cables are attached and ready for wiring into a charge controller or inverter system.

Applications

CIGS thin-film flexible solar panels like the SP3L-160 are used wherever a lightweight, low-profile photovoltaic solution is needed on a curved or non-rigid surface. SoloPower designed this panel primarily for residential and commercial rooftop applications where a non-penetrating or adhesive-bonded installation is preferred over a traditional racked glass panel system. The thin, rollable form factor also makes it well suited for marine applications — boat canopies, deck surfaces, and bimini tops — as well as RV rooftops and portable power setups. With a relatively high open-circuit voltage of 91.8V and a 600VDC max system voltage, the SP3L-160 is compatible with standard grid-tie and off-grid inverter and charge controller systems that accept high-voltage string input. CIGS technology generally performs better than crystalline silicon under diffuse or low-angle light conditions, which can be an advantage in northern latitudes or partially shaded installations. These specific units are new and unused — among the last produced at SoloPower's Portland, Oregon facility — and were originally rated for a 20-year service life.
