Description
Microdyne 1420-I IF Filter Amplifier 100 kHz 2-Pole Plug-In Module Telemetry
The Microdyne 1420-I Series is an intermediate frequency (IF) filter amplifier designed as a plug-in module for Microdyne telemetry ground station receiver systems. This unit is configured for a 100 kHz bandwidth with a 2-pole filter characteristic, used to select and amplify the IF signal while rejecting out-of-band noise and interference. Manufactured by Microdyne Corporation of Ocala, Florida, the 1420-I Series modules were a standard building block in ground station receiver mainframes used for aerospace, missile range, and satellite data reception.

Applications
The Microdyne 1420-I Series IF filter amplifier modules were used in Microdyne telemetry receiver mainframes at ground stations supporting aerospace test ranges, government and military test facilities, and satellite tracking operations. In a typical telemetry receiver system, the IF filter amplifier stage selects the desired signal bandwidth after the front-end mixer, shaping the signal for downstream demodulation. Different bandwidth configurations — such as this 100 kHz 2-pole unit — are swapped in as plug-in modules to match the data rate and modulation format of the incoming telemetry signal. The 1420-I series was particularly associated with PCM and FM telemetry reception from rockets, missiles, aircraft, and spacecraft in the 1970s through 1990s. These modules are sought today for maintaining legacy Microdyne receiver systems still in service at established test ranges and research facilities.
This Microdyne 1420-I Series IF Filter Amplifier module has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. It has not been powered up or tested at our facility, but was pulled from a working telemetry ground station environment where it was previously in service. The enclosure is clean with minor handling wear consistent with field use. The rear backplane connector and front panel components appear intact.
