The Imation 3M DDS-120 is a 4mm Digital Data Storage (DDS-2) tape cartridge designed for use with DDS-2 compatible DAT tape drives. Co-branded by Imation and 3M, this cartridge uses 4mm magnetic tape on a 120-meter spool and features the Media Recognition System (MRS) encoding strip that allows DDS drives to automatically identify tape type and capacity. Native capacity is 4GB, expandable to 8GB with 2:1 hardware compression.

Applications
DDS-2 tape cartridges like the DDS-120 were widely deployed through the 1990s and early 2000s as the standard removable backup medium for workstations, servers, and small business systems. They are compatible with DDS-2 DAT tape drives from manufacturers including HP, Compaq, Sony, Seagate, and others, as well as backward-compatible DDS-3 and DDS-4 drives that can read and write DDS-2 media. These cartridges remain in use today in legacy IT environments, archival recovery operations, and anywhere an older DAT drive-based backup infrastructure is still being maintained or accessed. They are commonly used with Unix, Linux, and Windows Server backup software via SCSI or USB DAT drive interfaces.

The tape cartridge and its clear plastic jewel case show normal shelf wear consistent with surplus storage. The tape shell and reel hubs appear intact with no visible damage.
