Applications

The Aydin 3053 was used in PCM telemetry ground stations for satellite tracking and data acquisition, as well as in aerospace, defense, and government test ranges. As a bit synchronizer and demodulator, it receives a modulated RF or baseband PCM data stream and recovers the clock and data — a critical function in any system that needs to acquire and decode digitally encoded telemetry from airborne or orbiting platforms. Aydin's Computer and Monitor Division was a well-known supplier of telemetry ground support equipment from the 1970s through the 1990s, with the 3053 dating to the mid-1990s generation of rack-based telemetry front-end hardware.
