Applications
The AST3100 is an indoor monitor and control unit used in government and commercial SATCOM ground terminal systems. In a typical VSAT or dedicated satellite terminal architecture, the IDU handles the L-Band IF signal path between the modem/demodulator and the block upconverter (BUC) or low-noise block (LNB) on the ODU, while the monitor and control subsystem provides centralized command, status monitoring, alarm management, and remote interface capability. The multiple RS-232 and RS-485 serial ports support connections to modems, frequency converters, and other rack equipment, while the Ethernet IP ports allow network-based remote management. The integrated Multi-Tech MultiAccess Communications Server inside the chassis enables IP-to-serial bridging, a common requirement in government and military satcom installations. Units of this type were used in fixed and transportable satellite terminals in government, defense, and commercial telecom environments where centralized control and monitoring of the RF chain was required.
This Americom Government Services AST3100 L-Band Indoor Monitor and Control Unit has been inspected and is in good used condition. It was pulled from a working satcom environment where it was in active use. The chassis shows typical surface wear and some scuffing on the top cover, consistent with rack-deployed equipment. The front panel LCD, LEDs, and controls appear intact. The rear panel connectors — including RS-232, RS-485, Digital I/O, BNC L-Band, and IP ports — all look clean and undamaged.
