Applications
Apple Macintosh computers from the late 1980s through the mid-1990s used a proprietary 15-pin DB-15 video connector — physically similar to a standard VGA/SVGA HD-15 plug but with a different pin layout and sync signaling. This made Macs incompatible with the growing market of standard SVGA PC monitors without an adapter. The ViewSonic Macintosh Adapter was designed to bridge that gap, allowing owners of Mac II, Quadra, Centris, LC, and early Power Mac systems to connect a standard SVGA multisync monitor in place of an Apple-branded display. The DIP switches communicate monitor identity and sync capability back to the Mac's video circuitry, enabling the system to select the correct resolution and refresh rate. These adapters remain useful today for anyone maintaining vintage Macintosh equipment or using period-correct CRT monitors with legacy Mac hardware.
This ViewSonic Macintosh Adapter (Mac 15-pin to SVGA video adapter) has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. The metal housing shows minor surface wear typical of handled equipment, and both connectors look clean and undamaged. The red resolution label is intact and fully legible, and the 8-position DIP switch cover opens freely. It was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use.
