Description

Texas Instruments Bourdon Tube Fused Quartz Pressure Sensors Set of 4

This is a complete set of four Texas Instruments fused quartz Bourdon tube pressure sensors, stored in their original wood carry case. Each sensor consists of a black-faced disc housing that accepts a cylindrical capsule assembly containing a precision-coiled fused quartz Bourdon tube element. The four sensors cover different pressure ranges and measurement types — gage, absolute, and differential — making the set useful for a range of precision pressure reference and calibration tasks. Each disc face is labeled for RANGE, CAPSULE number, and GAGE number to keep the sensors identified at a glance.

Applications

Texas Instruments' fused quartz Bourdon tube pressure sensors were precision reference instruments used in metrology labs, calibration facilities, and research environments where high accuracy and long-term stability were required. The Bourdon tube principle — a curved or coiled tube that deflects under pressure — is one of the oldest and most reliable pressure sensing mechanisms; the use of fused quartz as the tube material rather than metal gives these sensors exceptionally low hysteresis, minimal creep, and high repeatability, properties that made them well-suited for serving as transfer standards or calibration references. Texas Instruments (not to be confused with the semiconductor company of the same name — this is the instruments division that was later spun off) produced these sensors primarily from the 1960s through the 1980s, and they were widely used in aerospace, industrial metrology, and laboratory standards work. A set covering gage, absolute, and differential ranges is particularly useful for a calibration bench that needs to cross-check instruments across multiple pressure measurement modes. These sensors are still sought by metrology labs and collectors of precision measurement instruments.

Condition: Used
This Texas Instruments Bourdon Tube Fused Quartz Pressure Sensor set has not been powered up or tested at our facility, but was pulled from a working lab environment where it was previously in use. All four sensors and their capsule assemblies appear to be present and intact. The wood carry case shows general handling wear — scuffing and light marks on the exterior — consistent with regular lab use, and the latches and handle function normally. The sensor disc faces show minor surface wear and age-related patina on the metal fittings, as visible in the photos.
