Applications

The UltraSPARC II was Sun Microsystems' second-generation 64-bit SPARC V9 processor, introduced in 1997 and used throughout Sun's workstation and server product lines from the late 1990s into the early 2000s. It powered systems such as the Sun Ultra 1, Ultra 2, Ultra 10, Ultra 60, and several Sun Enterprise server platforms. The UltraSPARC II featured an integrated Visual Instruction Set (VIS) for accelerated multimedia and imaging tasks, and was the workhorse of Sun's Solaris-based computing environment during that era. Today these processors are sought after for maintaining, restoring, or upgrading legacy Sun workstations and servers that remain in service running Solaris or OpenBSD, or for vintage UNIX computing collections.
