Description

Spirent DLS 90 Wireline Simulator DL9-26-9 Ver 4 100-240VAC IEEE-488 RS-232

The Spirent DLS 90 is a rackmount wireline simulator designed to emulate telephone subscriber loop conditions for DSL and ADSL modem and equipment testing. Type DL9-26-9, Version 4, this unit simulates 26 AWG twisted-pair copper loops from 0 to a maximum of 9,350 feet, allowing engineers and technicians to replicate real-world line conditions in a controlled lab environment. It features IEEE-488 (GPIB) and RS-232 (DCE) interfaces for remote control and integration into automated test systems.

Applications

The Spirent DLS 90 is used in telecommunications R&D and quality assurance labs to simulate the attenuation, impedance, and electrical characteristics of real copper subscriber loops without requiring access to physical outside plant. This makes it essential for testing DSL modems (ADSL, ADSL2+, VDSL, HDSL, and related standards) against a range of loop lengths and conditions — from short in-building runs to near-maximum-reach loops approaching 9,000+ feet. It is also used by equipment manufacturers, telcos, and independent test labs to verify interoperability, characterize modem performance across loop conditions, and replicate field failure scenarios in the lab. The IEEE-488 and RS-232 interfaces allow the DLS 90 to be integrated into automated test systems and test benches where loop conditions must be swept programmatically. This class of wireline simulator was a standard fixture in DSL development labs throughout the late 1990s and 2000s as broadband DSL deployment expanded rapidly, and units like the DLS 90 remain useful wherever legacy DSL equipment is still maintained, tested, or certified.

Condition: Used
This Spirent DLS 90 Wireline Simulator (Type DL9-26-9, Version 4) has been inspected and is in good used condition. It was pulled from a working environment where it was in active use. The chassis is clean with only minor surface wear typical of lab/rack use. The front-panel LCD is visible and functional-looking in photos, displaying loop configuration data. A Simco Electronics calibration label on the front panel shows it was last calibrated on 05/15/2007. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
