Applications

SMC MKB series rotary clamp cylinders are designed for use in automated manufacturing fixtures where a workpiece must be clamped and held in position during machining, assembly, or inspection operations. The combined rotary-and-clamp motion — sometimes called a swing-and-clamp action — swings the arm clear of the workpiece during loading and unloading, then rotates it down and applies clamping force when air pressure is applied. This style of actuator is commonly found in automotive body-in-white assembly jigs, CNC machining fixtures, semiconductor handling equipment, and general industrial automation workcells. The auto-switch mounting grooves allow SMC D-series reed or solid-state sensors to be mounted directly on the cylinder for position feedback to a PLC.
