Applications
SMC MKB series rotary clamp cylinders are widely used in industrial automation and manufacturing equipment where a workpiece must be clamped securely before a machining, assembly, or inspection operation takes place. The combined linear-and-rotate motion — sometimes called swing-and-clamp — positions the clamp arm clear of the work zone when open, then sweeps in and presses down to hold the part when actuated. This keeps the clamping arm out of the way during loading and unloading, which is important on automated fixtures, jigs, and transfer lines. The MKB20 is a small-bore variant suited for compact fixtures on CNC machining centers, robotic assembly cells, pick-and-place tooling, and precision positioning fixtures. SMC is one of the world's largest pneumatic component manufacturers, and MKB series cylinders have been a standard choice in Japanese and global automotive and electronics manufacturing environments since the 1990s. The auto-switch compatibility allows integration with PLC-based control systems for position feedback without additional external sensors.
This SMC MKB20-20LZ Pneumatic Rotary Clamp Cylinder has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. It was pulled from a working environment where it was in active service. The unit shows normal signs of use — the cylinder body and rod show light surface wear and handling marks consistent with industrial service, as visible in the photos. The attached auto-switch wiring leads and inline push-in pneumatic fittings are present. We did not perform pneumatic actuation testing at our facility.
