This is an original adapter cable for Sigma Designs RealMagic MPEG decoder cards, converting the card's 8-pin mini DIN video output to a standard 15-pin VGA (DB15) female connector. It allows the RealMagic card's video output to be routed to a VGA monitor or display device. The cable has been tested and is in working order.

Applications

Sigma Designs RealMagic cards were a line of MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 hardware decoder add-in cards for PCs, produced primarily in the mid-to-late 1990s. Models such as the RealMagic Hollywood Plus allowed PCs to play DVD and Video CD content smoothly at a time when software-only decoding was beyond the CPU capabilities of most consumer hardware. These cards used a proprietary 8-pin mini DIN connector to pass decoded video to a monitor or to loop through the VGA signal, and this adapter cable was the interface between the card's video output and a standard VGA monitor. RealMagic cards were popular in early DVD-ROM PC setups and among home theater PC builders of that era.
