Description
Satellite Systems 3430 BTR Satellite Beacon Receiver 1U Rackmount SSC L-Band
The Satellite Systems Corporation (SSC) 3430 BTR is a 1U rackmount satellite beacon receiver designed to acquire and track beacon signals transmitted by geostationary and other orbiting satellites. The unit receives a continuous-wave beacon signal from the satellite, measures its level, and outputs control data used to drive antenna-positioning systems — keeping a dish or tracking antenna pointed accurately at the satellite. The front panel features a 2×3 button keypad (including RESET) and an alphanumeric LCD display that shows operating frequency and gain in real time; the photographed display reads F: 1448.00 MHz with GAIN: 805 in REM (remote) mode.

Applications
Satellite beacon receivers like the SSC 3430 BTR are used in satellite ground station installations to provide automatic antenna tracking. A geostationary satellite continuously transmits a low-power beacon signal — typically in the L-, C-, or Ku-band — which the ground station uses as a pointing reference rather than the main communications signal. The beacon receiver locks onto this signal, measures its received power level, and feeds that level data to the antenna controller (ACU), which adjusts azimuth and elevation drives to maximize signal strength. This closed-loop tracking keeps large dish antennas precisely pointed despite station-keeping drift in the satellite's orbital position. The 3430 BTR was used in teleport facilities, broadcast uplink stations, military and government ground stations, and research installations. The L-band operating frequency shown on the display (1448 MHz) is consistent with downconverted satellite beacon tracking in a standard block downconvert ground station architecture, where the L-band IF output of a low-noise block downconverter (LNB) feeds the beacon receiver directly.
This Satellite Systems Corporation 3430 BTR Satellite Beacon Receiver is in good used condition. The unit was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use. The front panel, chassis, and rear connectors show normal wear consistent with rack-mounted service use — minor scuffs and handling marks on the top and front surfaces. The LCD display and front-panel buttons appear intact and undamaged. It has not been powered up or tested at our facility. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
