Description

Samsung MR16R0824AN1-CG6 64MB PC600-53 184-Pin RDRAM RIMM NonECC Rambus Memory

The Samsung MR16R0824AN1-CG6 is a 64MB PC600-53 Rambus DRAM (RDRAM) module in the 184-pin RIMM form factor. It operates at 600 MHz over a 16-bit Rambus channel and is the NonECC variant, making it compatible with consumer-grade Intel chipset platforms that do not require error correction. The module is housed in Samsung's characteristic blue aluminum heat spreader, which is required on all RIMM slots — empty slots must be filled with a C-RIMM continuity module.

Applications

RDRAM was developed by Rambus Inc. and brought to the PC market in the late 1990s and early 2000s through a partnership with Intel. These 184-pin RIMM modules are compatible with desktops and workstations built on Intel's 820, 820E, 840, and 850 chipsets — platforms used in Pentium III and early Pentium 4 systems from approximately 1999 to 2002. RDRAM offered higher peak bandwidth than the contemporary PC133 SDRAM but required all RIMM slots to be populated (using C-RIMM continuity modules in empty slots), which added cost and complexity. The technology was eventually superseded by DDR SDRAM. Today these modules are sought after for maintaining, repairing, or upgrading legacy Pentium III and early Pentium 4 workstations and servers that shipped with RDRAM, as genuine replacement RIMMs have become increasingly scarce.
