Applications

Linear supplies of this class — heavy transformer, large filter capacitors, TO-3 pass transistors — were a standard building block in industrial automation, telecommunications, and precision instrumentation throughout the 1980s and 1990s. They are valued for their low output noise and ripple compared to switching supplies, making them suitable for sensitive analog circuitry, legacy instrumentation, and any application where EMI from a switcher is unacceptable. This Power-One HE15-9-A International Series Linear Power Supply is new from the manufacturer but has been in open-box storage for an extended period and shows moisture exposure damage. The Q1 transistor (SN3055) mounting hardware has heavy rust and corrosion visible on the screw and surrounding panel area. The terminal block has degraded adhesive residue buildup. The included Declaration of Conformity (dated September 27, 1996) and partial spec sheet both show moisture staining and wrinkling. The unit has not been powered or tested at our facility.
