Description
Nanosolar Nanocell 2.6W Flexible CIGS Solar Cell Raw Uncoated Aluminum Lot 10
This listing is for a lot of 10 Nanosolar Nanocell flexible CIGS (Copper Indium Gallium Selenide) thin-film solar cells totaling 26 watts of rated output. Each cell is built on a semi-rigid, semi-flexible nickel-coated aluminum substrate and is supplied raw and uncoated — no protective encapsulant has been applied. These cells came from Nanosolar's final experimental production runs at their California facility before the company was liquidated in September–October 2013, making them genuine new old stock that has not been commercially available.

Applications
CIGS thin-film solar cells like the Nanosolar Nanocell are used in DIY solar panel construction, experimental photovoltaic research, off-grid power projects, and custom solar array builds. CIGS technology offers higher efficiency than amorphous silicon thin-film cells and performs well in low-light and diffuse-light conditions. The semi-flexible aluminum substrate makes these suitable for curved or non-planar mounting surfaces where rigid crystalline silicon cells cannot be used. Because these cells are supplied raw and uncoated, builders need to encapsulate them — typically using EVA film and a back sheet, or a suitable transparent resin — before outdoor deployment. Nanosolar was a Silicon Valley-based solar startup that developed a roll-to-roll printing process for CIGS cells and operated a large manufacturing facility in San Jose, California; the company ceased operations in 2013. These cells represent the last production output from that facility and are of interest to DIY builders, solar researchers, and collectors of photovoltaic technology.
These Nanosolar Nanocell 2.6W flexible CIGS solar cells are new old stock from Nanosolar's final production run at their California facility before the company was liquidated in 2013. The cells have never been used or installed. They are raw and uncoated — no encapsulant has been applied — so they will degrade if exposed to moisture or the elements without proper encapsulation. The cells appear in clean, undamaged condition consistent with new old stock storage. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
