Applications
The Microcom QX/12K is a late-1980s to early-1990s era external dial-up modem from a period when asynchronous analog modems were standard equipment for PC-to-PC data communications, bulletin board system (BBS) access, and early online services. Microcom was a well-regarded manufacturer during this era and originated the MNP (Microcom Networking Protocol) family of error-correction standards — MNP Class 7 was among the higher-performance classes, providing both error correction and data compression over standard public switched telephone network (PSTN) lines. The DB25 RS-232 serial interface was the dominant computer-to-modem connection standard of the era, compatible with IBM PC/XT/AT and compatible systems as well as a wide range of workstations and terminals. Units like the QX/12K are sought today by vintage computing enthusiasts, retro BBS operators, and collectors restoring period-correct computer setups from the DOS and early Windows computing era.
This Microcom QX/12K MNP Class 7 External Modem has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. The black plastic housing shows typical surface scuffs and wear consistent with prior office use, but there is no cracking or major damage. The front-panel LED indicators and model label are intact and legible. The rear DB25 serial port and dual RJ-11 phone jacks are present and appear undamaged. The DIP switch bank on the rear is present with switches intact. No cable is included — unit only. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
