Applications
The MS9540 VoyagerCG was designed for retail point-of-sale, inventory control, and light industrial data entry where keyboard wedge connectivity was the standard integration method. Keyboard wedge scanners like this one plug directly into the keyboard port of a PC, passing keystrokes through while injecting barcode data as if it were typed — making them compatible with virtually any software without drivers or serial port configuration. The CodeGate feature made the VoyagerCG especially well-suited to environments with closely spaced barcodes, such as pharmacy shelving, warehouse bins, or product displays, where accidental mis-scans needed to be avoided. AT/PS2 keyboard wedge scanners were the dominant handheld scanner interface through the 1990s and early 2000s before USB wedge and serial interfaces became standard; this unit dates from November 2003, near the tail end of that era.
