Applications
Injection mold tooling of this type is used in the high-volume production of optical discs — DVDs, CDs, and related formats — on dedicated disc replication injection molding machines. The mold is clamped into the platens of the injection molding press, where molten polycarbonate is injected at high pressure through the sprue to form a disc substrate in a fraction of a second. Water cooling circuits within the mold rapidly cool the formed disc before ejection. Meiki Co., Ltd. was a prominent supplier of optical disc injection molding equipment and tooling, particularly from the 1980s through the 2000s, when disc replication was a major manufacturing industry worldwide. Kata Systems was an associated brand used in this disc manufacturing context. This type of mold tooling remains of interest to disc replication facilities still operating legacy lines, tooling engineers, and collectors of optical disc manufacturing equipment.
This Meiki MDMI DVD/CD injection mold tool has been inspected and is in good used condition overall. The steel mold body shows typical wear from prior production use, including surface marks, some discoloration, and handwritten notations on the mold faces — consistent with normal tooling use. The injection and cutter-side faces show surface scuffing and minor staining. The sprue bushing and gate areas show heat discoloration typical of optical disc mold tooling. Quick-change cooling fittings (red and blue) are present and appear intact. Ejector rods are visible and undamaged. The Meiki Co. Ltd. manufacturer label is intact and legible. Please note: We have multiple units in stock — yours may not be the one shown in the photos, however, it will be similar in condition and function.
