The Lucent 6424D+ was designed as a mid-range desk set for corporate environments running Lucent or Avaya Definity PBX systems — the G3 and later ECS/MultiVantage platforms that were standard in large enterprise offices from the 1990s through the 2000s. In a Definity installation, a phone like the 6424D+ would be assigned to a user who needed direct-line access to multiple extensions or features — call transfer, hold, conferencing, and direct-line pickup — all mapped to its 24 programmable buttons. The 6400 series sat in the middle of Lucent's feature-phone lineup, above basic 2-button sets but below the top-tier 8400 series. Avaya continued to support these phones after acquiring Lucent's enterprise division in 2000, and many legacy Definity and early Avaya Communication Manager systems still in service today can run the 6424D+ without replacement hardware. They remain a practical, low-cost option for maintaining or expanding an existing analog Definity-compatible system.
This Lucent 6424D+ business desk telephone has been inspected and is in good used condition. It was pulled from a working office environment and shows normal cosmetic wear — light scuffing on the housing and some marks around the keypad area, consistent with everyday office use.
