Applications
The Kollsman MB-2 is a classic aircraft pressure altimeter designed for installation in an aircraft instrument panel. Kollsman Instrument Corporation was one of the primary suppliers of barometric altimeters to the U.S. military and civilian aviation from the mid-20th century onward, and the MB-2 type was commonly found in military aircraft of the WWII and postwar eras. Pressure altimeters of this type work by measuring the static air pressure via a pitot-static system and translating the pressure differential into an altitude reading displayed in feet. The Kollsman window allows the pilot to set the current local altimeter setting (QNH) to correct for variations in sea-level pressure. Today, instruments like this are sought by restorers of vintage military and civilian aircraft, aviation collectors, and hobbyists building cockpit simulators or display pieces. Note: This altimeter has not been functionally tested or certified at our facility. Any buyer intending to use it in an airworthy aircraft must have it inspected, tested, and certified by an FAA-authorized repair station before installation.
This Kollsman Instrument Corporation MB-2 Pressure Altimeter (P/N D22061 04 003) is in used condition. The instrument shows significant wear consistent with its age and former service life — the black housing has heavy paint loss and chipping across most surfaces, and the bezel shows wear at the corners. The dial face itself is intact with all numerals and markings clearly legible, and both pointer hands are present. A purple test port cap is visible at the lower left of the bezel. This altimeter has not been powered or functionally tested at our facility and is sold as-is; buyers should have it calibrated and certified before any flight use.
