Applications
The IEEE-488 bus (also known as GPIB or HP-IB) was developed by Hewlett-Packard in the late 1960s and standardized as IEEE-488 in 1975. It became the dominant interface for connecting programmable laboratory instruments — oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, and similar bench equipment — to computers for automated test and measurement. The KPCI-488 installs in a standard PCI slot and allows a PC to act as a GPIB controller, sending commands to and reading data from connected instruments. This type of card remains in active use today in legacy ATE (automated test equipment) systems, university and government labs, and industrial calibration environments where existing GPIB instrument fleets are still in service. NI-488.2 driver compatibility means the KPCI-488 works within standard VISA/IVI test frameworks alongside instruments from Keithley, Agilent, Tektronix, HP, Rohde & Schwarz, and many others.
This Keithley KPCI-488 GPIB IEEE-488 PCI Interface Card has been visually inspected and appears to be in good used condition. The component side is clean with no visible damage; the solder side shows some light pen or marker writing, which is cosmetic only and does not affect function. The 24-pin IEEE-488 bracket connector is intact and the PCI edge connector shows normal light oxidation from storage. The card was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use and has not been powered up or tested at our facility.
