The Intel DQ82536EP is a 56K V.92 internal PCI modem card supporting both data and fax communications over standard analog phone lines. The Intel DQ82536EP is a dial-up modem card from the early-to-mid 2000s, designed for desktop PCs with a free PCI slot. V.92 was the final major upgrade to the V.90 56K dial-up standard, adding faster upstream speeds (up to 48 Kbps vs. the previous 33.6 Kbps) and the "modem-on-hold" feature that allowed a dial-up connection to be paused while taking a phone call. These cards were widely used in home and small-office PCs during the dial-up era and were compatible with Windows 98, ME, 2000, and XP. Today they still see use in niche applications such as fax-over-POTS lines, remote site dial-up access, legacy point-of-sale or alarm-panel communications, and systems that require an analog modem connection where broadband is unavailable or impractical.
