The IMES SA2-40P is a benchtop acoustic sound test chamber designed for measuring and qualifying the noise output of hard disk drives (HDDs) during manufacturing and quality assurance testing. The system consists of the foam-lined acoustic enclosure — which sits on blue vibration-isolating mounts to decouple ambient floor vibration from the measurement — and the companion Acoustic Tester ver5.0 power and control unit. Applications
Acoustic sound test chambers like the IMES SA2-40P are used in hard disk drive manufacturing and incoming quality inspection to measure spindle and head actuator noise against manufacturer and OEM acoustic specifications. During testing, a drive is seated on the interface board inside the foam-lined, vibration-isolated enclosure; the Acoustic Tester unit provides regulated +12V and +5V power to the drive under test while microphone or accelerometer sensors capture acoustic and vibration signatures. The two interface boards — SA2-40P (40-pin) and SA2-80P (80-pin) — allow the system to accommodate different HDD connector generations. Systems of this type were standard equipment in HDD production lines and receiving inspection benches at drive manufacturers and large OEM storage integrators through the late 1990s and 2000s. Today they are also used by vintage HDD collectors, data recovery technicians, and research labs that require controlled acoustic measurements on rotating media.
This IMES SA2-40P Acoustic Sound Test Chamber has been inspected, cleaned, and tested at our facility and is in very good condition. The foam-lined chamber interior is intact with no tears or compression damage, the vibration isolators are present and functional, and both the SA2-40P and SA2-80P interface PCBs are installed. The Acoustic Tester ver5.0 control unit and all associated cables — including the sensor cable with locking circular connector and the ESD ground cable — are included.
