Applications
IBM DOS 5.0 was released in 1991 and represented IBM's version of the MS-DOS 5.0 codebase, licensed and packaged separately for IBM's own PC line. It was used on IBM PS/2 systems, IBM PC AT-class machines, and a wide range of IBM-compatible computers throughout the early 1990s. DOS 5.0 was notable for its improved memory management tools — including HIMEM.SYS and EMM386 — which allowed users to load drivers and TSR programs into upper memory, freeing conventional memory for DOS applications. The DOSSHELL interface provided a mouse-driven file manager for users transitioning away from the command line. Today, this package is sought by collectors of vintage IBM software, retrocomputing enthusiasts, and anyone maintaining or restoring period-correct IBM PC or PS/2 systems who needs original licensed media.
This IBM DOS 5.0 Disk Operating System package is in good used condition with normal shelf wear consistent with its age. The set includes three 3.5-inch floppy diskettes in their original clear sleeves, the printed Disk Operating System manuals, and the original retail box. The box shows light cosmetic wear on the edges and corners. The diskettes appear clean and undamaged in their sleeves. The manuals appear complete and legible.
