Description
Superwave Microsoft Windows 3.1 OS 7x 5.25" Floppy Disks Retail Box w/ Guides
This is a Superwave-branded retail edition of Microsoft Windows 3.1, one of the most historically significant PC operating systems of the early 1990s. The set includes all 7 original 5.25-inch (1.2MB) installation floppy disks along with two original Microsoft guides, all housed in the original Superwave retail box. The disk labels read "Superwave / Microsoft Windows USV 3.1 (english)" and bear the copyright notice 1985–1992 Microsoft Corporation with U.S. Patent No. A212-2252. This is a notable OEM variant — Superwave was a distributor that repackaged and sold licensed Microsoft software in its own branded retail packaging, making this set uncommon compared to standard Microsoft retail boxes.

Applications
Microsoft Windows 3.1 was released in April 1992 and became the dominant PC graphical operating environment of the early-to-mid 1990s, running on top of MS-DOS on 286, 386, and 486-class IBM-compatible PCs. It introduced millions of users to a mouse-driven GUI, TrueType fonts, OLE (Object Linking and Embedding), and built-in multimedia support. The 5.25-inch floppy format of this set dates it to the early-1990s transition period, when 5.25" and 3.5" media coexisted — later Windows 3.1 sets shipped on 3.5" disks, making the 5.25" version the less common of the two. This Superwave-branded edition is especially uncommon: Superwave was a licensed OEM distributor that packaged Microsoft software under its own retail identity, and sets like this one are rarely encountered today. The primary buyers for this set are vintage computing collectors, retrocomputing enthusiasts, and historians preserving original software media from the DOS/Windows era. It may also be of interest to anyone restoring a period-correct early-1990s PC build.
This Superwave Microsoft Windows 3.1 OS floppy disk set is being sold as-is. The retail box, all 7 installation disks, and both guides are physically present and appear to be in good cosmetic shape — the box shows light shelf wear consistent with age, and the disks and guides look intact with no obvious damage visible. That said, we cannot verify the data integrity of the floppy disks after so many years, and we cannot guarantee the disks will read correctly on modern hardware. This set is sold as a collectible or for display/archive purposes. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
