Description
Hughes Aircraft 3275720 PAM Decommutator Phoenix DTM 82577 Rackmount
The Hughes Aircraft 3275720 is a PAM (Pulse Amplitude Modulation) Decommutator built under the Phoenix DTM designation, model 82577, and produced by Hughes Aircraft Co. for the Flight Test Division. A PAM decommutator receives a time-division multiplexed pulse amplitude modulation signal and separates it into its individual channel outputs, allowing flight test engineers to recover discrete data streams from a single multiplexed telemetry input. This unit is a large, rack-mounted chassis with an extensive front panel featuring multiple word selector switches, output connector banks, a Local/Remote control switch, polarity and gain controls, and analog level meters.

Applications
PAM decommutators of this type were used in aerospace and military flight test programs to process telemetry data from instrumented aircraft, missiles, and test vehicles. The system receives a time-multiplexed PAM telemetry stream from onboard sensors and reconstructs the individual measurement channels — such as temperature, pressure, acceleration, and control surface position — for real-time monitoring or recording at a ground station. Hughes Aircraft Co. produced telemetry and data acquisition systems extensively for U.S. Navy and Department of Defense flight test programs during the 1970s and into the 1980s. Units of this class are sought by aerospace engineers maintaining legacy flight test infrastructure, museums, and collectors of military aviation electronics, as well as researchers working on vintage telemetry system restoration.
This Hughes Aircraft 3275720 PAM Decommutator (Phoenix DTM, model 82577) is a used surplus unit pulled from a decommissioned aerospace/flight test environment. It shows typical wear consistent with its age and prior service life, including general surface scuffing on the chassis panels and light oxidation on the gold-tone rear panel. The front panel controls, word selector switches, output connector blocks, and indicator meters appear intact and undamaged. The rear panel mil-spec circular connectors (J27, J28, J33, XF1) show normal wear. Internal PCBs and wiring harness are visible and appear complete. This unit has not been powered or tested at our facility and is sold in as-inspected condition. Please view our photo set carefully and contact us with any questions before purchasing.
