Applications
The Honeywell Visicorder series was a widely used family of oscillograph recorders produced from the 1960s through the 1980s, designed for high-speed, multi-channel waveform recording in research, aerospace, defense, and industrial test environments. Visicorder instruments recorded signals from galvanometer elements onto ultraviolet-sensitive or thermal paper, allowing engineers to capture fast transient events — vibration, shock, pressure pulses, electrical waveforms — that strip-chart pen recorders could not follow. The 1858 model in particular was used in structural dynamics testing, flight test data acquisition, engine and powertrain research, and military qualification testing. Galvanometer plug-in modules were interchangeable, allowing the system to be configured for different frequency ranges and sensitivities per channel. Today, the 1858 chassis and its rear connector assemblies, power supplies, and individual galvanometer modules are sought after for restoration projects or as spare parts for other working Visicorder systems.
