The HP JetDirect EX Plus3 (J2593A) is an external network print server that connects up to three parallel-port printers directly to an Ethernet network, allowing any networked computer to send print jobs without a dedicated print PC. Applications

The HP JetDirect EX Plus3 was designed to let businesses and workgroups share parallel-port printers across an Ethernet LAN without tying a workstation to print-server duty. Introduced in the mid-to-late 1990s, JetDirect external print servers were a standard fixture in HP-centric office and enterprise environments of that era — connecting HP LaserJets and other parallel-port printers to both TCP/IP and Novell IPX networks. The three-port design allowed a single unit to serve an entire small print room. Today these units continue to be used to keep older parallel-port laser printers alive on modern networks, particularly in legacy environments, schools, and small offices that still operate HP LaserJet hardware from the same generation.
