This Edwards Foreline Trap is a compact inline trap designed to protect rotary vacuum pumps and vacuum systems from oil vapor backstreaming and particulate contamination. Manufactured in Britain by Edwards High Vacuum (a BOC Ltd. company based in Crawley, England), it fits in the foreline between the vacuum chamber and the pump inlet. The trap body is machined aluminum with a threaded end cap and an internal multi-element filter cartridge, secured with a green O-ring seal.

Applications
Foreline traps are standard components in vacuum systems using rotary vane or rotary piston mechanical pumps. They are installed in the foreline — the pipe connecting the vacuum chamber or high-vacuum pump to the backing pump — where they intercept oil vapor that can backstream from the pump toward the chamber, and also catch particulates moving in the other direction. Edwards has been one of the leading manufacturers of rotary vacuum pumps and vacuum system components since the mid-20th century, and their foreline traps were widely used in research labs, semiconductor process equipment, coating systems, mass spectrometers, freeze dryers, and general scientific vacuum applications. This trap is suited for use with small to mid-size rotary vane pumps wherever a KF/NW small-flange foreline connection is used. The removable internal filter cartridge can be replaced or cleaned, making the trap reusable over many service cycles.
This Edwards Foreline Trap (made in Britain by Edwards High Vacuum, a BOC Ltd. company) is in good used condition. The trap was pulled from a working vacuum system environment. The aluminum body shows typical light surface wear consistent with lab use, and the green O-ring seal appears intact. The internal filter cartridge and threaded end cap are present and included. The unit has not been powered up or bench-tested at our facility, but it came out of a working environment where it was previously in service.
