Description
Carl Zeiss 392622 220V Discharge Lamp Power Supply w/ Ignition Microscope Lab
The Carl Zeiss 392622 is a benchtop power supply designed to drive discharge lamps used in Carl Zeiss optical and microscopy equipment. It features a built-in ignition circuit (labeled Zünd-Taste in German) to fire the lamp at startup, an EIN (on) rotary switch, a front-mounted analog ammeter displaying output current, and a round multi-pin output socket for lamp connection. Output is rated at 220V, 50–60Hz, drawing 3.6–4.2A. The unit was manufactured in Germany by Carl Zeiss.

Applications
Discharge lamp power supplies of this type were used to power high-intensity arc and discharge lamps — such as mercury, xenon, or halogen discharge sources — in Carl Zeiss microscopes, projectors, and optical instruments. The ignition circuit provides the high-voltage pulse needed to strike the arc inside a discharge lamp, after which the ballast circuit stabilizes current through the lamp during operation. Carl Zeiss built these dedicated power units to pair with specific lamp housings on instruments like the Zeiss Axiomat, Axiovert, Photomicroscope, and other research and industrial microscopy platforms. Units like this are still sought by labs and collectors maintaining vintage Zeiss optical equipment, as original Zeiss lamp supplies are often required for correct lamp operation and longevity. This unit is rated for 220V mains, consistent with European electrical standards, and dates from the mid-to-late twentieth century era of West German Zeiss production.
This Carl Zeiss 392622 discharge lamp power supply has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition overall. The painted metal chassis shows moderate surface rust, scuffing, and age-related wear consistent with its vintage — most notably rust spotting on the top and sides, and some staining around the front controls. The analog ammeter, EIN rotary switch, red indicator light, and Zünd-Taste ignition pushbutton are all intact and present. The round multi-pin output socket on the side panel is complete. A power lead is attached. This unit was not bench-tested at our facility and is being sold as-is from a lab environment. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
