Applications
The Bay Networks BLN-2 (Backbone Link Node 2) was a modular, high-performance enterprise router platform from Bay Networks, introduced in the early-to-mid 1990s as part of their BLN/BCN router family. These chassis-based routers were workhorses of enterprise and campus backbone networks, supporting multi-protocol routing across Token Ring, Ethernet, FDDI, T1/WAN, and other interfaces through interchangeable line cards and processor modules. The P119298 processor board is the central compute module of the BLN-2 chassis — it runs the router's operating system (Bay Networks' Router Software, predecessor to Nortel's Optivity/BayRS) and manages routing table operations and chassis coordination. PCMCIA flash cards on these platforms store the router OS image and configuration, functioning much like a boot device. The BLN platform was eventually succeeded by Nortel Networks' Passport and Contivity lines after Bay Networks' acquisition by Nortel in 1998. Today, P119298 boards are sought by organizations still maintaining legacy BLN/BCN router infrastructure, as well as collectors of 1990s enterprise networking hardware.
This Bay Networks P119298-AR12 BLN-2 Router Processor Board has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. It was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in service. The board is Rev 05 and includes the Centennial Technologies PCMCIA Flash Memory Card (FL16M-20-11138-03). The PCB shows normal handling marks consistent with removal from a chassis; no visible damage, burnt components, or broken traces are noted. The PCMCIA flash card is present and seated.
