Applications
The Advanced Energy MDX Pinnacle series is used primarily in PVD (physical vapor deposition) sputtering systems, where a DC power supply drives a magnetron cathode to deposit thin films of metals, oxides, and other materials onto substrates. These systems are central to semiconductor wafer fabrication, flat-panel display manufacturing, optical coating, and hard-surface coating processes. The MDX Pinnacle's arc management and interlock features make it well suited for reactive sputtering and other processes where plasma instability is a concern. Profibus connectivity allows integration into automated process control systems common in semiconductor fabs. The MDX Pinnacle series was introduced in the late 1990s and became a widely deployed platform in both 200mm and 300mm semiconductor fabs, as well as in university and commercial R&D thin-film labs. This Advanced Energy MDX Pinnacle 8kW DC magnetron drive power supply has been inspected and appears to be in good condition. It was pulled from a working environment where it was in active use. The front panel shows normal surface wear and light scuffing consistent with rack-mounted service use. The chassis shows light marks on the top cover. Rear connectors, the Profibus port, and DB9 Remote interface appear intact. The three-pole output circuit breakers are present and the input terminal block is complete with all connections.
