Applications
9-track, 1/2-inch open-reel magnetic tape was the dominant data storage medium for mainframe and large minicomputer systems from the late 1960s through the early 1990s. These reels were used with tape drives on IBM System/360, System/370, and compatible mainframes, as well as DEC, CDC, Unisys, and other platforms that supported ANSI-standard 9-track tape. Common recording densities were 800 BPI (NRZI), 1600 BPI (PE), and 6250 BPI (GCR). Today, these reels are sought for legacy data recovery and archival migration projects, as props or display pieces, and for collectors of vintage computer hardware and storage media.

The tape is fully wound on the reel, the canister latches properly, and no obvious damage to the tape media or housing is visible in our inspection. As this is magnetic storage media of unknown age, the data integrity and read/write compatibility of the tape cannot be verified — it is sold as-is.
