The Zoom Data Systems 2400 is a desktop external dial-up modem connecting via a DB-25 RS-232C serial port. It communicates over standard telephone lines at 2400 baud and includes both a LINE jack for the wall connection and a PHONE jack for pass-through use of a telephone handset. Eight front-panel LED indicators — HS, AA, CD, OH, RD, SD, TR, MR — provide real-time status monitoring of modem activity and line state. Made in the USA.

Applications
External 2400 baud modems like the Zoom Data Systems 2400 were a standard peripheral for personal computers throughout the mid-to-late 1980s, connecting PCs to bulletin board systems (BBS), online services such as CompuServe and Prodigy, and early internet dial-up access. The RS-232C DB-25 serial interface made it compatible with virtually all DOS-based PCs of the era, as well as early Macintosh and CP/M systems with a serial port. The external form factor was preferred by many users because it allowed easy monitoring of connection status via the LED panel and could be shared between computers simply by swapping the serial cable. Today these modems are sought by vintage computing enthusiasts, retrocomputing hobbyists, and collectors restoring period-correct DOS or early Mac setups, as well as anyone maintaining legacy dial-up or serial communications equipment.
This Zoom Data Systems 2400 External Modem has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. The cream and gray plastic housing is clean with minor surface marks consistent with normal use. All eight front-panel LED status indicators (HS, AA, CD, OH, RD, SD, TR, MR) are present, and the rear-panel connectors — including the DB-25 RS-232C port and both RJ-11 jacks — appear intact with no visible damage. This unit has not been powered up or tested at our facility, but it comes from a previously operational environment. The Zoom-branded AC adapter and an RJ-11 phone cable are included.
