Applications
The Wollensak 2873AV was designed for the AV presentation market of the 1970s and early 1980s, when synchronized slide-tape programs were a standard format for corporate training, educational instruction, and museum/exhibit programming. In these setups, an audio cassette recorder like the 2873AV would send inaudible sync pulses to a connected slide projector, advancing slides automatically in step with recorded narration. Wollensak — a brand of 3M — produced a well-regarded line of AV-sync cassette recorders widely used by schools, universities, corporate AV departments, and audiovisual production houses during this era. The 2873AV is compatible with any slide or filmstrip projector that accepts a remote advance signal, including common models from Kodak, Ektagraphic, and similar manufacturers. Today these units are sought by collectors of vintage AV equipment and by institutions or enthusiasts who still operate slide-tape programs.
This Wollensak 2873AV AV Sync Cassette Player/Recorder powers on and has been confirmed to play and record tapes. It is being sold as-is with no warranty. No manual, cables, or peripherals are included — the unit only. The unit is housed in its original brown briefcase-style case, which shows normal wear for its age. The front panel controls, VU meter, tape transport, and rear connectors all appear intact and undamaged in our photos.
