Description

Visioneer PaperPort Vx 85-0022-001 Sheet-Fed Document Scanner RS-232 DB9 Serial

The Visioneer PaperPort Vx is a compact, bar-style sheet-fed document scanner that connects to a host PC via an RS-232 serial (DB9) interface. It feeds single-page documents through its scan slot and digitizes them directly to compatible PaperPort software, making it a lightweight solution for desktop document capture without a bulky flatbed footprint.

Applications

The PaperPort Vx was introduced by Visioneer in the mid-1990s as one of the first consumer-oriented desktop document scanners designed specifically for paper management software. It used a serial RS-232 connection at a time when parallel-port and early SCSI scanners dominated the market, targeting home and small-office users running Windows 3.x or Windows 95/98 on PCs with available COM ports. The scanner was bundled with Visioneer's PaperPort software, which allowed users to drag scanned pages into desktop document stacks — an early predecessor to modern paperless-office workflows. Today these units are sought by vintage computing enthusiasts, collectors of 1990s PC peripherals, and anyone maintaining period-correct retro PC setups that include a functioning serial port.
