Description

Tektronix RM 529 Waveform Monitor Rackmount For Parts Vintage Discrete CRT

The Tektronix RM 529 is a rackmount analog waveform monitor designed for broadcast video engineering applications. Built during the transition era from vacuum tubes to transistors, it uses entirely discrete components — resistors, capacitors, transformers, and a mix of tubes and transistors throughout — with no integrated circuits. The unit powers on but blows the internal 0.3A fuse upon power-up and produces no display; it is being sold as-is for parts or repair.

Applications

The Tektronix RM 529 was designed for broadcast television engineering, used in video production facilities and TV stations to monitor video signal levels, check sync pulse timing, and verify compliance with NTSC broadcast standards. Waveform monitors of this type were standard equipment in master control, editing suites, and camera-chain setups from the 1950s through the 1970s. The RM 529 dates from the late 1950s to early 1960s — an era when Tektronix was defining the broadcast test equipment market and instruments were hand-wired using discrete components rather than ICs. Units like this are no longer used in active broadcast service, but they remain of strong interest to vintage electronics hobbyists, restorers, and collectors drawn to point-to-point wiring and mixed tube/transistor designs. The dense, well-organized discrete component boards also make it a useful parts source for restorers working on other Tektronix equipment of the same era.

Condition: For Parts or Not Working
This Tektronix RM 529 Waveform Monitor powers on but blows the internal 0.3A fuse upon power-up and produces no display. The fault is undiagnosed and the unit is being sold strictly as-is for parts or repair — it is not guaranteed functional. The chassis is complete with its CRT, discrete component boards, and all major assemblies intact, making it a good candidate for parts salvage or restoration. The rear panel shows a handwritten note indicating the CRT was replaced on 4/2/75, and an asset tag reading
