Description

UTI Instruments 100C Ion Gas Analyzer Controller Amplifier 30 MPN 05162-0102

The UTI Instruments Model 100C is a precision ion gas analyzer controller designed to work with a UTI RF Generator and ion probe to analyze residual gas composition in vacuum systems. The front panel provides Scan Width and Scan Center controls along with a multi-program selector (NORM, A, B, C, EXT) and a Function bank for operational mode switching. The integrated Amplifier Model 30 occupies the right portion of the front panel, providing a Damper control and a pressure/current range selector spanning from 10⁻⁵ to 10⁻¹² Torr and 10⁻⁴ to 10⁻¹¹ Amps. The rear panel carries dual D-Sub connectors (J1 and J2), BNC outputs for Signal Out, Ramp Generator, and External Program, a switchable 115V/230V AC input with dual fuse holders, and an IEC AC inlet. Calibration label confirms Part No. 05162-0102, Model 100C Control Unit, Made in USA.

Applications

The UTI Model 100C is a residual gas analyzer (RGA) controller — a class of instrument used to identify and measure the partial pressures of gases present inside a vacuum chamber. RGA systems like the UTI 100 series were standard equipment in high-vacuum and ultra-high-vacuum environments from the 1970s through the 1990s, including semiconductor process chambers, physical vapor deposition (PVD) and CVD reactors, ion implant systems, electron beam systems, and research vacuum apparatus. The controller works in conjunction with a UTI RF generator and an ionization probe (quadrupole mass filter head) to sweep across a mass range, ionizing gas molecules and measuring their abundance by mass-to-charge ratio. This data is used to monitor vacuum quality, detect leaks, identify outgassing species, and verify process gas purity. UTI Instruments was a well-regarded manufacturer of RGA systems, and the Model 100 series instruments are still sought by operators maintaining legacy vacuum systems as well as researchers who need capable, straightforward analog-style RGA controllers. The front-panel scan and program controls allow manual and externally-triggered sweep operation, while the BNC outputs provide analog signals compatible with X-Y recorders and external data acquisition systems.
