Applications
The Phasemaster III is a resistance welding controller from Unitek's classic line of precision weld controls, dating from the mid-1980s through the 1990s. Resistance welding controllers of this type regulate the amount of electrical energy delivered to the weld electrodes — controlling current percentage, weld time (in AC cycles), and in temperature-feedback models like this one, the actual temperature at the weld zone. This allows repeatable, consistent weld quality on small assemblies such as battery packs, wire harnesses, electrical contacts, and electronic component leads. The Phasemaster III's temperature-control mode was particularly valued in thermocouple-monitored applications where heat input had to be tightly managed to avoid damaging heat-sensitive components. Unitek (later Unitek Miyachi, now Miyachi America) controllers of this era are found in electronics manufacturing, medical device assembly, automotive component production, and precision wire bonding and tab welding. Replacement units, spare controllers, and service spares for Unitek Phasemaster systems continue to be sought by facilities maintaining older resistance welding lines.
This Unitek Miyachi 1-220-01 Phasemaster III Welding Controller has been inspected and is in good used condition. It was pulled from a working environment where it was in active use. The enclosure shows surface scuffing, paint wear, and some rust spotting on the rear panel plug covers and knobs — consistent with years of shop use. The front panel thumb-wheel displays and indicator lights are intact and the Unitek nameplate is clean and legible. The attached welding cables and multi-pin connectors are included and appear intact, though they show expected service wear. The rating plate is fully readable (Model 1-220-01, Cat.
