Applications

Numeric pagers like the PGN-900 were the primary mobile notification device for medical professionals, emergency dispatchers, sales personnel, and field technicians throughout the pre-cellular era. These pagers received numeric-only messages (typically telephone numbers or short codes) transmitted over dedicated paging networks, allowing recipients to quickly respond by locating a telephone. The Uniden PGN-900 represents a specific generation of consumer-grade paging technology that bridged personal communications between the two-way radio and early cellular phone eras. Though paging systems have been largely superseded by smartphones and data networks, vintage pagers remain valued by telecommunications historians, emergency services nostalgists, and collectors of classic communications equipment.
