Applications
The Uniden Personal Cable Pro Series PC4000 belongs to the generation of home satellite receivers built for the large C-band dish (BUD — Big Ugly Dish) market that was popular in the United States through the late 1980s and into the 1990s. These systems pulled signals directly from geostationary satellites across the C band (3.7–4.2 GHz) and Ku band (11.7–12.2 GHz), giving viewers access to hundreds of unencrypted and scrambled programming feeds before the rise of small-dish direct broadcast satellite (DBS) services like DirecTV and Dish Network. The VideoCipher RS module was the industry-standard conditional access system used by HBO, Showtime, ESPN, and many other premium cable and satellite networks during that era; subscribers contracted with programming providers to enable descrambling of their specific channels. The integrated VideoPal order recorder allowed viewers to order pay-per-view events directly through the receiver. Today the PC4000 is sought by hobbyist satellite enthusiasts (FTA and legacy-dish communities), collectors of vintage consumer electronics, and those still operating large-dish home satellite systems on C/Ku band.
This Uniden Personal Cable Pro Series PC4000 C/Ku Band Satellite Receiver has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. It was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use. The unit includes the original remote control. No manuals or accessories are included. Some light surface wear is typical for a piece of used consumer electronics from this era. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
