Applications

The Triplett 630-NA dates from the mid-1960s, a period when Triplett was one of the leading American makers of analog test instruments for electronics service, electrical work, and laboratory use. Analog VOMs of this type were standard bench and field instruments for technicians servicing radio, television, and electronic equipment, as well as for industrial electrical troubleshooting. The Type 3 suspension movement gives this meter better sensitivity and needle stability than many contemporary pivot-and-jewel instruments, making it suitable for low-level DC measurements. Today these meters are used by vintage electronics restorers and collectors, technicians who prefer analog readouts for their intuitive needle-deflection response, and anyone working on tube-era or early solid-state equipment. The wide voltage range — up to 6000V DC — also makes it useful for high-voltage work such as tube amplifier servicing. A 30V battery (typically a Eveready No. 412 or equivalent) would be needed to restore the ×10K and ×100K resistance ranges.
