Applications
External SCSI disk enclosures like the DA60-D3R were a standard storage expansion solution for workstations and servers in the late 1980s and early 1990s. SCSI was the dominant high-performance storage interface of that era, used widely in Unix workstations from Sun Microsystems, Silicon Graphics, and DEC, as well as in Apple Macintosh and high-end PC systems equipped with SCSI host adapters. An external enclosure like this allowed users to expand storage capacity beyond what internal bays could accommodate, with the multi-drive bay design supporting striping or spanning configurations depending on the host controller. The DA60-D3R's four-bay chassis with individual activity LEDs per drive made it well suited for environments where monitoring individual drive status was useful, such as small servers or data-intensive workstation setups. Today, units like this are primarily sought by collectors of vintage computing hardware and operators maintaining legacy SCSI-based systems.
This Trimm Industries DA60-D3R External Disk Drive Enclosure is in used condition. Both installed Hitachi DK516C-16 hard drives have been tested and boot to C:. The metal chassis shows age-related discoloration and surface oxidation consistent with older storage hardware. The front bezel is intact with all four disk activity LED indicators (D0–D3), the thermal indicator, and the power rocker switch present. The rear dual 50-pin SCSI connectors appear intact with wire bail clips in place. The IEC power inlet and fuse holder are present on the rear panel.
